I am Happiness Imuetinyan, and my journey in engineering and research has been guided by a deep curiosity about energy systems, fluid dynamics, and sustainable solutions for our planet. I began my academic path at the University of Benin, Nigeria, where I earned a Bachelor of Engineering in Petroleum Engineering. I then pursued a Master of Petroleum Engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, gaining hands-on experience and deep insights into reservoir engineering, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena. To complement my technical background, I also completed an MBA at the Quantic School of Business, equipping me with business strategy and management skills that broaden my perspective as a researcher and professional.

In early 2025, I completed my PhD in Process Engineering at the University of Pau et des Pays de l'Adour (UPPA), France, funded by the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) scholarship through  CampusFrance . My doctoral research focused on the convective dissolution of CO2 in porous media, using experimental techniques such as shadowgraphy and optical imaging to explore fluid transport and scaling phenomena. This work allowed me to combine fundamental science with practical applications in carbon capture and storage, contributing to solutions for mitigating climate change.

My professional experience spans both industry and academia. I started my career as a Field Engineer and Petrophysicist in Nigeria, working on well logging and reservoir analysis, which gave me a practical understanding of porous media and real-world fluid behaviour. I later joined Gradely Technologies in business development, bridging technical expertise with strategic growth initiatives. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher at DMEX, UPPA, where I continue to study CO2 convective dissolution in brine-saturated rocks using 4D X-ray Computed tomography to improve our understanding of underground CO2 storage processes.

Throughout my career, I have sought to combine global experiences with interdisciplinary skills, from field engineering in Nigeria to research in Malaysia and France, and business training in the United States. I am passionate about sharing knowledge and mentoring, participating in outreach programs such as the European Researchers' Night, and contributing to professional communities like the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers.

I hope my story inspires current and future alumni to pursue curiosity-driven research, embrace global opportunities, and apply their skills to address real-world challenges.
