Nicolas Sabourin - Dried Fruits & Nuts Purchaser and Transport - Alumni of the IAE Pau-Bayonne Master in International Purchasing and Logistics
“IAEs are beginning to be as highly regarded as business schools, and even better regarded by some employers”.
Hello, could you introduce yourself in a few words? Which IAE Pau-Bayonne course did you graduate from? What has been your career path so far?
Nicolas Sabourin, former student at the IAE Bayonne in the International Purchasing and Logistics Master's program. It's been almost two years since I left the course that enabled me to spend 2 years as a dried fruit buyer (including 1 year with a study training program) at Maître Prunille. In the third year, I was promoted to Sourcing Manager for the brand, while continuing to work as a buyer.
In 2023, you joined the Master 2 Purchasing and International Logistics program at the IAE Pau-Bayonne. Why did you choose this program?
I chose the ALI Master's program because of the way it's organized. In the first year, you can choose between an internship in an international context or an Erasmus World program. I chose Thailand for a semester. After that, the Master's program offers a study training program, which gives a good balance between theoretical training and practical application in the field.
Could you also tell us about your international mobility as part of the Summer School program?
The Summer Schools have been very enriching, and I took part in the one planned as part of the Master's program, with an exchange at Frankfurt University (House of Logistics and Mobility - HOLM) with speakers such as DHL (a leader in international transport). I also chose to take part in a Summer School at the Universita Degli Studi di Torino (Turin) as part of a program on border issues around the world. I got to meet some great people with whom I'm still in contact today.
How did the IAE Pau-Bayonne help you in your career and in building your career?
The organization of the Master's program, as mentioned in the first question, played a big part. Indeed, it's possible to go abroad and do a sandwich course, whereas most Master's programs offer either traditional initial training or sandwich courses, but not both at the same time. What's more, IAEs are beginning to enjoy the same reputation as business schools, and are even more highly regarded by some employers.
How did your first year on the job market go?
Very well, with a permanent contract in place even before the end of my work-study program, and prospects for further development within the training company.
Do you have any advice or words of advice for future graduates who will soon be looking for their first job?
I'd advise them not to limit themselves to a specific geographical area and to cast a wide net. It's important to know what you're looking for, so you know what you like and where you want to go.
