‘Take advantage of the opportunity to pursue a high-quality higher education, in the local area and close to home, and above all in the atmosphere of a small school where there is close contact with the teachers.’

Hello, can you introduce yourself in a few words? What course did you take at the IAE Pau-Bayonne? What has been your career path so far?

Hello, my name is Gabriel Souverbie and I'm from Laruns. I have a Master's degree CSBA at the IAE Pau-Bayonne. I've had a varied career, having been a professional rugby player with the Section Paloise and, at the same time, obtained a degree in History from the UPPA. After that, I didn't pursue my rugby adventure, so I joined the Crédit Agricole Pyrénées Gascogne as an employee. They offered me the chance to join their work-linked training scheme. So it was quite natural that I turned to the IAE Pau-Bayonne to do my work-linked master's degree. So I did my two years of work experience with the Crédit Agricole Pyrénées Gascogne. My first year in a private customer branch in Biarritz, and my second year in a professional area where we were in charge of small businesses, again in Biarritz.

In 2023, you joined the Master 2 Banking and Insurance Advisor programme at the IAE Pau-Bayonne. Why did you make this choice?

It was an obvious choice because I was looking for a Master's degree in banking, and the IAE Pau-Bayonne offers a high-quality course, in the region and close to home, so we don't have to go to Bordeaux, Toulouse or Paris to study.

How has the IAE Pau-Bayonne helped you in your career and in building your career?

The IAE Pau-Bayonne enabled me to get back into university after I stopped playing professional rugby, and to get a Master's degree in the field I like. During my work-study placement with the Crédit Agricole Pyrénées Gascogne, I was able to play rugby at a semi-professional level with the Saint Jean de Luz club.

How did your first year go after graduating?

After graduating, I decided to go abroad with the aim of improving my English and opening up to the international scene, even though I had been offered jobs in banking. So I spent 10 months in Oceania, with a friend I met during my Masters at the IAE Pau-Bayonne. I travelled and worked in New Zealand, Fiji and Samoa, before ending my adventure in Australia. During my stay, I applied for VIE opportunities in the banking sector, and because of the international aspect and my current level of English, I was able to land a VIE position as Junior Credit Officer in a Crédit Agricole subsidiary in Frankfurt, Germany. I will start this job in September 2025.

If you had to choose just one highlight from your years at the IAE Pau-Bayonne, what would it be?

I would choose the day of my oral exam for the dissertation. It went really well and it was a nice moment with the teachers I'd had over the last two years. This oral marked the end of my university course and it was an important moment that marked the end of one story and the beginning of a new one.

Do you have a message for students currently studying at the IAE Pau-Bayonne?

Take advantage of the opportunity to do high-quality higher education in the region, close to home and, above all, in the atmosphere of a small school where there is close contact with the teaching staff.
