Sabriya IBRAHIM MAMADE - Marketing Officer - Alumni of the IAE Pau-Bayonne Master degree in International Trade
“The IAE Pau-Bayonne offer particularly appealed to me, as it combines theory and practice, with a first year of courses in France followed by a second entirely abroad.”
Hello, can you introduce yourself in a few words? Which IAE Pau-Bayonne course did you graduate from? What has been your career path so far?
My name is Sabriya Ibrahim Mamade, and I'm originally from Madagascar. I graduated with a Master's degree in International Trade. Today, I work as a Marketing Officer for a group in Indonesia.
I graduated from the Lycée Français de Tananarive with a baccalauréat ES, which enabled me to pursue a DUT in Marketing Techniques, then a work-study degree in digital marketing at the IUT de La Réunion.
I also completed several internships in sales and digital marketing with various companies on Reunion Island.
Following this, I decided to do a Master's degree in International Trade at the IAE Pau-Bayonne.
In 2023, you joined the Master 2 International Trade program at the IAE Pau-Bayonne. Why did you choose this program?
I chose this Master's program because I wanted to open up to the international world and acquire a global vision of my field. As I'm fascinated by cultural differences, I wanted to experience life abroad. I was particularly attracted to the IAE Pau-Bayonne program, which combines theory and practice, with a first year of courses in France followed by a second year entirely abroad.
How did the IAE Pau-Bayonne help you in your career and in building your career?
First and foremost, the IAE Pau-Bayonne enabled me to enrich my knowledge of international business, through a wide range of courses: international law, geopolitics, business development, international management, logistics and so on.
But above all, concrete projects such as the Export Challenge, carried out throughout the course, enabled us to work as a team on a real internationalization project for a company, a highly formative experience.
Thanks to the year abroad, it's much easier to project yourself into an international environment. You discover new countries, learn to adapt and develop your network well beyond France.
How did your first year on the job market go?
I'd say I've had a good overview thanks to the internships I've done, particularly abroad, as the IAE Pau-Bayonne strongly encourages us to do. I worked in two quite different structures, but always in a corporate environment, with different types of management and missions.
These experiences taught me a lot. Today, I feel more at ease and more confident when it comes to managing projects with responsibilities. In fact, it was thanks to my last internship in Bali that I landed my current position.
This first year is going very well: it's full of challenges and discoveries. I'm satisfied, because my student career has given me a solid foundation. Today, I'm able to take on responsibilities, manage a team, express myself in English with my international team, and propose strategies for the development of the company in which I work.
If you had to choose just one highlight from your years at IAE Pau-Bayonne, what would it be?
I had a great time during my Master's years, especially in the pleasant surroundings of the Basque country. Two moments in particular come to mind:
The first was the Export Challenge, where I had the chance to work with a team of talented and caring students to develop a local brand internationally. We won the competition at the end of the year, which makes this memory even more magical.
The second highlight was my ERASMUS semester in Naples. It was an unforgettable experience on a personal level. I got to know myself better, adapting to the “beautiful mess” of this lively city, and creating precious memories with a group of friends with whom I'm still in touch today.
Do you have any advice or words of advice for future graduates who will soon be looking for their first job?
My advice would be not to limit yourself to one sector or one type of job. Dare to step out of your comfort zone, because it's often in the unknown that you learn the most.
I also recommend that you stand out from the crowd: highlight your skills, share your experiences, and don't hesitate to come up with creative ideas.
Don't let your shortcomings hold you back: your first job is all about learning, training and gaining confidence. In most cases, your team will be very sympathetic. The most important thing is to listen, to be yourself, and to have confidence in your ability to meet even the most complex challenges.
Don't be too hard on yourself, make the most of every experience, whether positive or not.
